Shock servicing

A returning customer upgraded to a newer sled this season. Noticing his rear suspension is lacking, he removed his shocks for service. The centre shock is beyond repair due to damage caused by coil spring rubbing the seal head and shock body. A faulty spring retainer is to blame. The rear shock is a different story. Before disassembly, a bench test was done. Compressing the shock felt normal however there was no rebound. The cause was a damaged wiper (see pic) that would cause so much stiction it wouldn’t allow rebound cycle of the shaft.

Sending shocks for service

This a great way to send your shocks. Wrapping the shock and the shafts especially to prevent any damage. Remove all springs, retainers and bushings is recommended.
